Kia teases with the brand's first luxury sedan.

Kia seems to be prepping America for the brand's first luxury sedan, one auto show at a time.

Executives say no decision has been made to sell its first rear-wheel-drive sedan here, but Kia is sure spending a lot of time and effort moving its big, head-turning GT concept across the show circuit. So far, the sporty-looking GT is slated for four U.S. shows and one in Canada.

Thus it appears Kia will soon be competing with the Audi 6, BMW 5 series, Mercedes-Benz E Class – and the Hyundai Equus.

This week, Kia Motors Corp. announced that the sedan will be unveiled in Korea by this summer.

The production car, code-named KH, will be sold globally. Much of the GT's design will appear on the KH, which shares a platform with Hyundai's Equus sedan.

Today, Kia's most expensive U.S. sedan is the Optima Limited, which stickers for about $35,000. If the KH is sold here, it would presumably be priced similar to the Equus, which ranges from about $59,000 to $66,000.

Tom Loveless, Kia's North American sales chief, said that if the rear-drive sedan is sold here, it would be slotted above the Cadenza, a new Kia sedan that goes on sale here next year.

The front-wheel-drive Cadenza is larger and more luxurious than the Optima and aimed at buyers of the Chrysler 300, Ford Taurus and Toyota Avalon. Loveless didn't talk pricing, but the Cadenza will likely sell in the mid-$30,000s to low $40,000s. (Which is also the size and price range of the redesigned Hyundai Azera.)

Michael Sprague, Kia's North American marketing boss, wouldn't say if the KH is coming to America, but revealed a bit of the strategy.

"It would definitely be a halo vehicle, limited number," Sprague said. "You don't want to build anymore than you have to. You want it to be unique vehicle for the brand."

Kia released drawings of the KH Feb. 13. Those drawings reveal a similarity to the GT concept, which debuted last September at the Frankfurt auto show and has been shown in Los Angeles and Chicago. The concept is now is heading to Toronto, Atlanta and New York.

What's been the public's reaction?

"Overwhelmingly positive, here and overseas," Sprague said. "We know L.A. loved it. We want to get a Midwest perspective. We want to get a Southern perspective and then a Northeast perspective."

He added: "People are asking, 'When are you going to build it?'"

We love feedback from our customers!

"After a very poor experience at a previous dealership we decided to head over to Superior Kia to check out a few of their Certified-used Kia Sedona's. The difference in Superior Kia and the previous dealership was like night and day. Gerald Greene met us at the door and we could immediately tell that whether we made a purchase or not, this was going to be a much better experience. Within a reasonable amount of time we test drove a vehicle, traded in our old one, worked a deal and had our purchase financed. In our particular experience the friendliness of Gerald while making the purchase truly made it enjoyable. We would recommend Gerald and Superior Kia in Cincinnati, Oh to our friends and family alike and most definitely consider them for our future car buying needs!" -matt

"My intention was just to test drive the Forte Hatchback, not to buy one just yet. But we met Gerald as soon as we got there and ended up with a new car. Gerald made us feel so comfortable with no high pressure sales tactics. I told him I didn't want to play games, and they didn't. I would definitely recommend this dealership, and Gerald in particular, to anyone looking for a new car." -Shania

Kia releases first photo of its Track'ster concept car

Kia-trackster-concept-rear-wide-623x389

Having shown off a sketch last week, Kia has now released the first photo of its Track’ster concept car. The model will bow later this week at the Chicago auto show, but is not slated for series production.

The prior teaser sketch showed that the three-door Track’ster had a sloping roofline, big showy wheels, and an aggressive scallop in the front fender. This rear shot shows the car has a squat stance, with flared fenders leading into a greenhouse that tapers at the top. Twin round exhaust tips, bracket-shaped taillights, and vents in the bumper further dress up the Track’sters rear. The car is loosely based on the production Kia Soul hatchback.

Kia says the Track’ster, which is the brainchild of the company’s California design studio, is a performance-themed variant shows “what the Soul could someday be.” Lead designer Tom Kearns echoed those sentiments, saying the Track’ster has a “rebellious, individual, and urban character.”

The company says the Track’ster concept would be powered by a gasoline engine with about 247 hp on tap. However, there are no plans to put a model like this into series production. The concept car will be unveiled publicly later this week in Chicago.

"This was a very pleasant buying experience. Everyone was very friendly and professional. I felt I had a unique situation and they helped me work through it. They got me a fantastic rate on my loan and reduced my payment by $65 each month on a newer, more dependable car with a warranty. I felt good when I left and would definitely go back. Thanks Superior Kia, Gerald and Scott!" -Tracy

"We just bought our 2012 Kia Soul from Superior. What an amazing experience! Catarina was our sales lady. Let me tell you, she was amazing. She was super friendly and really knew the vehicle well. She took the time to take us through the Base, the +, and the ! models until we finally figured out which one was right for us. They stayed even after they were closed so that we could finalize our deal that night. All the managers were super nice and didn't pressure us too much. I can't wait until it is time to buy my husband a new car. We will definately be returning to Superior Kia! Thank you Superior Kia for a wonderful car buying experience! :)" -Mrs. Kamp

Great job, Superior Kia team!

"After owning our vehicles for over 10 years, an accident forced us to be in the market for a new car. Since we were out of the loop for so long, we knew we needed to search for the best vehicle for our family of 6. Gerald Green approached us to offer assistance on our visit to Kia. He asked questions to find out our needs, found a vehicle to test drive, and answered every question my husband or I asked. Although his manager tried to get us to stay, I knew for my own sanity that I needed to compare the Sedona to other minivans that I had searched on-line. We left and browsed elsewhere. The next day we found ourselves back at Kia asking for Gerald. He assisted us in purchasing the vehicle that we felt would best suit our family's needs. Because the color we wanted was not on the lot, we waited only 1 day for our new van to arrive. When we picked it up, Gerald showed us all of the features, how they worked, and he even synchronized my phone for bluetooth...which I had no clue about!!! He answered all questions and even offered additional information that "other customers often ask". While we waited to see the finance guy, which took a long time, Gerald even treated my children to some candy at the vending machine (and he even had already sold the car :) ). Scott Taylor finally saw us to make everything official. He was also a super nice guy. I would recommend Gerald to anyone. He did a fabulous job. He made the experience of purchasing a new vehicle a very positive one." -momof4
